My soul was distressed and deep in despair. The sin in my life grew harder to bear. Sadness without, depression within; The more that I tried, the less I could win. The worries and fears too num'rous to count, Made heavy my load as higher they'd mount. I finally gave up my lonely ordeal, Let Jesus, the Lord, perform His good will. Chorus: And it's so good to be free! Yeah! Oh, so good to be free! Praise the Lord, He had mercy on me, And it's so good to be free! So stubborn was I by inherited plight, And like a wild stallion, I put up a fight. I thought I could run this race by myself, That I didn't need anyone's help. But, thanks be to God, He saw my great need, And never gave up on His child to be. When I asked for help from sin to depart, He readily took every sin from my heart.
